Just make sure there are no cats or dogs around, they might pick up the ...... by mistake.

The problem with poisoning a raccoon is that anything that will be attractive to it and will kill it will also attract and kill a dog or cat. So I would go with the trap. If you really want it dead after you trap it - so be it - that is up to you. But it is very dangerous to leave poison laying around.
There are more humane ways of getting rid of unwanted pests.





They are called just that Humane Traps. I would suggest getting a pro to do it for you. Three good reasons?





1. The rascal may not be a single, it may be one of a family. Getting rid of the one won't solve your problem.





2. Unless qualified, you could be seriously injured by any scared animal. Especially one known to be as cunning as your unwanted guest.





3. Regardless on your knowledge of trapping laws in your area, if approached improperly you could be looking at some serious fines. The possibility of Prosecution is also a real concern.





Good luck, and don't get hurt. They are very strong, can be very quick, and are very intelligent. Cute doesn't matter when it comes to frightened animals.
You would be better served to buy a live trap large enough to hold the little critter. Bait with some kind of food. Set the trap near where he is making his nightly rounds. After you catch him, call the local humane society. They will come out and deal with him for you.





It kind-of depends on where you live. If your in the country, they are really good eating, shoot the critter. If in the city, you better follow my first suggestion.
Maybe you could just sit down with the raccoon and have a beer and talk about your differences. I'm sure you could learn some mutual respect and thoughts of brutal raccoon bludgeoning will be in the past.
