How do make a great snare trap for raccoons, and how long does it need to be?

Google ';Ohio Snaring guide'; for some really great snares taht can be very simple to make.

This is also a great beginner site. Just remember to have a long stick ready because sometimes that joker is merely caught and not in a strangle (racoons have tendency to use their hands and therefore get them caught more than being choked).

Best of luck!

**** Sniper!!! Where is your link? How do make a great snare trap for raccoons, and how long does it need to be?
in stead of a snare (cause it gets tripped by a lot of other animals) try a catch and hole. What i found works great if you can kinda keep an eye on it, like once every 12 hours or so, is to take a small peace of dark colored steal, aluminum, hard plastic. Drill a 3/4 inch hold in it. Then take a log that is semi hollowed out. screw the dull plastic or w/e to a hole in the log. So you have a hollowed out hole with this plate over it. Place a balled up peace of aluminum foil (about 1/2 inch wide) in the hole. take some dog food or cat food and just smear the sent around the tree, you can place a few bits in the hole also if you want. The coon will come along and investigate this smelly log... Look inside the hole grab the aluminum foil and not let go... And i mean they wont let go! i have had one in that trap for about 8 hours once. They just dont give up!

Edit: Make sure your plate is dull in color!!!!How do make a great snare trap for raccoons, and how long does it need to be?
heres a usefull link that covers quite a bit about snaring. Important note to remember raccoons will take the shortest path from point a to point be and a GREAT place to put snares for coons is around an irrigation pump in a corn field.
