Skinning a raccoon...storing body?

I caught a raccoon and MIGHT skin it for practice. However, I may not get to it until tomorrow / Tuesday. If I kill the raccoon now, can I freeze it / fridge it for a day or two until I can get to it? Or will it basically rot and ruin the skin?...thanks! I don't plan on eating the meat, I just want to skin it for practice.Skinning a raccoon...storing body?
OK. I'm not an anti-hunter or anti-trapper, in fact, quite the opposite. However, the idea of killing an animal for ';practice'; is unethical, despicable, and it makes the rest of us look bad. First I would like to inform you of some things. The raccoon is a game animal, therefore it has a season on it and is not open this time of year. Next you need a trapping license to trap them unless you are doing nuisance trapping in which case you need a permit. As to the fur, it is worthless and good for nothing at this time of year. Also know that it is illegal to transport a live game animal. I suggest you release it to catch again in season or kill and toss it. Oh and by the way, ignore all these PETA loving, animal ignorant idiots that make comments to you.
It would be easier to do it immediately although it is unethical to keep it confined and probably scared for such a long time. Yes you can kill and freeze it (or even just chill it in the fridge if it will be no more than a day or two) to be skinned at a later date without any damage, but it will be harder. I froze a coyote for like three months before I skinned it, but it got a bit freezer burnt so it was a son of a gun to do. If you do decide to freeze it, you should probably give it about a day to thaw.

if it was in your trash just shoot it an get it over with.i use to trap i would just put them in a freezer and take them in to be sold frozen,that way i did not have to skin them.
Keep it alive......a warm fresh kill is the best to clean......A cold frozen raccoon is harder to clean/skin.....even after thaw.
Freezer. Then allow about a day out of the freezer to thaw out.
keep it alive until ur ready to skin it
