Have you heard of the raccoon roundworm?

Pretty scary stuff

Didn't read the article. Are you talking about Baylis ascaris?

Maybe it's 'cause in my part of the world, we don't have many raccoons, but we did have a fatality about ... (checking the records) ... 1993-ish.

Just another reason to keep your yard unappealing to the vermin. It's exceedingly rare for us; the scary one that we see more of is cysticercosis. While visceral larval migrans creeps me out to no end, having tapeworms hole up in your brain is pretty nasty, too, and far more prevalent.Have you heard of the raccoon roundworm?
It is, indeed! Ample reason not to keep a pet raccoon (fascinating though they are), and to maintain good hygiene, particularly for small children. This site provides additional info: http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153鈥?/a>
Never heard of it. Good to know. They live around my home, see them crossing the city street all the time. I plan on passing the word to my friends Thanks.

I wonder what happens to those w/ compromised immune systems?

Scary indeed.
