How do you get rid of raccoons without using harm?

Please don't pay attention to ';get a dog';, as raccoons will tear up even a very big dog. My aunt had the problem so I did a research for her. Black Plastic....Get a big roll from a construction or farming supply, and make a flat 'fence' with it. Raccoons won't step on it, as the footing feels funny to them. My aunt put the plastic around her garden, (lays flat on the ground, and weighted with rocks) and stapled black garbage bags around the trunks of her fruit trees. her problem was solved. However, not everyone lives where a plastic barrier is practical, so here are other remedies from on line:%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;

According to ';Gardening How-To';, published by The National Home Gardening Club, the article ';Guess Who's Coming to Dinner';, written by Barbara Pleasant, says that corn and grapes are favorites of the raccoon, but raccoons often dine on other fruits as well. Knowing this, a gardener should focus on protecting these crops before they are raided.

Sprinkling blood meal amongst garden plants, scattering mothballs, and the use of commercial repellents is suggested by ';Gardening How-To';. The same article suggests placing a strand of electric fencing wire around the garden a few inches off the ground to keep away raccoons. This is not a safe suggestion if children are present or are likely to come in contact with the wiring.

';Gardening How-To'; recommends the use of a barrier to protect vulnerable plants. It says that chicken wire, netting, or plastic enclosures all make great barriers to deter raccoons as well as many other destructive animals. A barrier is inexpensive and easy to make, often with materials that are on hand. Supplies or ready-made barriers can be purchased at most garden centers.

Raccoons can be captured using a baited live trap and transported to wooded areas away from residential neighborhoods. This is a safe and humane method of removing raccoons from your yard. Professionals can be hired to capture and relocate raccoons, but if you decide to trap them yourself, use extreme caution. Any animal that is trapped will bite out of fear.How do you get rid of raccoons without using harm?
What a stupid answer!!! A good hound will rip a coon to shreds. Just get a 220 conibear kill strap and stick over the hole. when he sticks his head through it will kill him instantly.

Bridger2 is wrong. A dog trained to hunt raccoon will have a chance but it is not a guarantee. Also the question asked to do this without harm. It wasn't a stupid answer but one that directly addressed the question.

Yes don't get a dog. Raccoons can be vicious when they are attacked. I know this because my dog recently got into a fight with one. She had some pretty nasty bites. She's ok now though. Also raccoons are known for carrying rabies. Not all of them carry it. It is common though. Your best bet is to call animal control. Also get lids for your trash cans. And fasten them on with bungee cords. That will keep them out of your trash. If they can't get in your trash they might just leave on their own. Then the neighbors will have to deal with them.
Get a dog. (Cats won't work, because they are not big enough to frighten off on a coon)
well you can get a live trap and this won't hurt them.but this time of the year they might have babies under their so you might want to wait.
i know what you said but kill them lol
Spray a light mist of tobacso sauce on whatever they are getting into. They will leave it alone in no time.
call the animal control center.
A friend of mine uses a trap that he got from animal control. It's harmless to the raccoon and you can release it wherever you want. I give you a lot of respect for not wanting to harm the raccoon! Good luck!
um take a broom and shoo it at them? call animal control and have them take it away?
Call animal control. They have ';live traps'; and can release them into the wild.
maybe by spraying some stuff that smells bad to them all around your property
Make sure they don't have a food source by your house like cat or dog food, or garbage. Getting a dog is also a good idea, or you could just run out side and yell at them and scare them off. They probably won't come back.
