Ok, clarification please...is the raccoon in the pig family??

No. A raccon is a rodent. Pandas are in the same family as raccoons.

Pigs are a totally different family.Ok, clarification please...is the raccoon in the pig family??
Whoever voted for this as the best answer clearly knows nothing about animals! Raccoons are not rodents, they are carnivores belonging to the family Procyonidae, which also includes the red panda. The giant panda, however, belongs to the bear family (Ursidae).

Ok, clarification please...is the raccoon in the pig family??
Nope, raccoons are in the Carnivora order (same order as canines, felines, bears, otters, etc. ) , in the Procyonidae family (along with Kinkajous, Olingos, and ringtails)

Pigs, however, are in the Artiodactyla order (the same as deer, camels, peccaries, goats...); in the Suidae family

As you can see, they're not in the same family. Not even in the same order. The lowest taxonomical classification they share is the Eutheria Infraclass
No. The raccoon is in the family Procyonidae. The pig is in the family Suidae.

Furthermore, they are also in different orders. The raccoon is in the order Carnivora. The pig is in the order Artiodactyla.

They are, however, in the same class, Mammalia, and the infraclass Eutheria.

In response to some other answers...

The giant panda is in the family Ursidae.

Rodents are defined by four ever-growing incisor teeth. Raccoons do not have them.

There is no such thing as a ';rodent family';. Rodents are an order, Rodentia.
I believe raccoons are in the rodent family. Your mom probably compares them to pigs because they will eat anything they can find......
My goodness, some people are really confused about what a raccoon is, aren't they?

Raccoons are nothing to do with pigs, which are ungulates (hoofed mammals). Pigs belong to the Artiodactyla, or even-toed ungulates. Raccoons are carnivores, belonging to the family Procyonidae, which also includes coatis, ringtails, olingos, kinkajous and the red panda.

The giant panda, however, belongs to the bear family (Ursidae).

The Mustelidae are the weasel family, including stoats, otters, badgers, wolverines and so on.

The term 'rodent' comes from the Latin 'rodere' meaning 'to gnaw' - rodents have four large, constantly-growing incisors which they need to wear down through gnawing or eating hard foods. Raccoons belong to the order Carnivora, having long canine teeth, small pointed incisors, and carnassial teeth at the back of the mouth for shearing flesh. Examples of rodents include rats, mice and squirrels.

Hope this clears things up!
honestly i dont know but i dont think so....a pig? thats weird....definetly not! maybe like the sloth or badger family but a pig? that makes no sense...who got that in your head? haha
No, the raccoon is in the Procyon genus, the nocturnal mammal family, including kinkoujous, coatis, olingos, and ringtails.

I'm not sure how you connected pigs with raccoons? : )
