Raccoon or skunk?

I've heard that you can keep em as pets. I have 2 ferrets, 2 mice, dog, some fish. I LUV animals! Which one will be good for me and my be loved pets? Which one is like a ferret, sinse I have 2 ferrets? Friendly? Active? Cuddly? Where can I find one? Please give me a good answer.Raccoon or skunk?
I would recommend a skunk because I hear that they have a temperament similar to that of cats.

No skunk for me.....I'd take the racoon as a pet!
Why would you want to have either? There are plenty of animals that make good pets, but taking creatures from the wild and trying to turn them into pets is just cruel. Get a rat - they're friendly, active, affectionate and very intelligent. Spend time with it, and you can teach it to do all sorts of things.
You may not want to get either with all your other pets. Raccoons are a lot of fun, but they may eat your fish. My husband has had several raccoons when he was growing up and they are tons of fun, but all of them were rescued when something happened to their mothers. Raccoons do get mean when they grow up, though. If you do get a raccoon, make sure you CONSTANTLY have water around them. They do not have any saliva glands and require lots of water, especially when eating.

You definately have to find out what your area requires for permits before getting either a skunk or a raccoon. Try to get hooked up with your local conservation office and find out if you could be a foster parent to a skunk or raccoon. Then they may help with the care of the critter.
I would love to have a raccoon as a pet, butt I wouldn't recommend it. They aren't sold at pet stores or anything like that, and the only way you're going to get a baby one, at least in the United States, would be to go fishing around in a raccoon's nest, which isn't the best idea. They could have rabies, parasites, etc. that they would bring to your other animals. Admire from afar!!
Before deciding, you should check on necessary permits. At least in the US, you can not keep a raccoon without the proper permits. I am not sure about the skunk. If it is allowed, it would have to be a domestically bred skunk. It is illegal to take any native wild animal in the US for a pet.

Also check your state and local laws. Some places don't even allow the ferrets you currently have (so I assume you do not live in California, or any other state that bans ferrets as pets)
RACOON!!!
ummm i think you should take the racoon.... i think that its safer.
i dont know about a skunk but my aunt used to have a raccoon and it used to get really mad at her when she left and tear the house up so she started taking it everywhere with her and she ordered one of those vests for animals off the net so she could say he was a raccoon who detected low blood sugar for diabetics(but he wasnt)........and then he got used to going everywhere and learned to drive the car......she had to push the pedal but he could steer just like a human.......his name was buddy........he was cool.......but he also used to get mad at her and steal her stuff...they are very sneaky......and they like shiny things.....like jewelery......they take the stuff then hide it........everywhere.......but they are nice most of the time.........and very loveable.......but i dont know where to find it.......my aunt got hers from some guy who had him but couldnt take care of him anymore.......so im not sure where to get them..........well good luck
hmm well I live in Fla where you can buy alomst any kind of animal. I personally would go with the skunk I hear if you know what you're doing or learn they can be de-scented and make a quite unique pet.
Neither. Both are primarily nocturnal, and so they'll be awake when you're asleep. The raccoon will constantly be handling your possessions, moving them around, and breaking things (unless you've totally raccoon-proofed your home). Skunks can be, well, smelly, if they get frightened or surprised.

These are wild animals. Leave them be. Instead, get a kitten that's about 14 weeks old -- old enough to be away from its mother, but still young enough to learn to play with your ferrets.
I do know that it is really hard to keep a skunk. they are more suseptable to diseases and it is illeagle to remove their scent glands.

On the other hand coons are mean and probably don't domesticate very well.

I would get a hedgehog or something to that effect.
I would have a skunk...they are sweet. Once their scent glands have been removed they make great pets. People raise them for this reason...im not too sure on coons...they still seem a little wild to me.

A friend of mine had both at different times. The skunk was the better choice. Reminded us a lot of ferrets.
i live on a ranch and I've owned both a raccoon and a skunk, and i would advise against it especially with you having a dog they rarely get along as its in their nature to fight. When raccoons and skunks are little they are quite cute and fun to be around they love to play, but as they get older they become very aggressive and i guarantee they will attack your pets and you especially if there's any type of food involved. You have to remember these are wild animals and they will eventually do what is in their nature to do. Just because owning these type of animals sounds like a neat idea doesn't mean it is.
